Elephants good; Donkeys bad.

"If I find in myself desires which nothing on earth can satisfy, the only reasonable explanation is that I was made for another world." C.S. Lewis

"Trash in - Trash out."

This truth made so much sense to me the first time I heard it. Yet, I have never really chosen to prevent the trash from entering through my eyes and ears.

Praise God for my wife and her attempts to be my helpmate. God joined us together and designed her to help me. She has taken the "trash in - trash out" truth seriously, while I have selfishly fulfilled the desires of the flesh.

I have recently committed to true obedience to God. This includes a covenant with my eyes to not look lustfully at any woman (see Job 31:1). In the book, "every man's battle", the authors describe how typical it is for many men, within a matter of seconds, to scan an entire room and notice every attractive woman. The authors lay out a line of defense against this habit by explaining how to "bounce" one's eyes from anyone or anything that we may find sexually attractive or stimulating. A very clear case is made indicating that the one and only source of any sexual gratification (visual, mental, physical...) must be our wife. This will be truth in my life and God is granting me victory in the bouncing my eyes battle.

Proverbs 5:18-19 May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth. A loving doe, a graceful deer, may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be captivated by her love.

Isaac while eating chocolate/vanilla swirl ice cream with sprinkles at Two Brothers: "Chocolate and pink makes orange."

Daddy: "Emily, are you going to eat that jello you asked for?"
Emily: "No. I'm full; I just had a mint."

Daddy: "Isaac. Say, 'I'm the dumptruck!'"
Isaac: "I'm the dump-ster."

Jenny and I are perusing books in the "religion" section of Barnes and Nobles - Jacob says: "Daddy, this fly has a hairy butt."

"My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare." Psalm 25:15

I need this to be fact in my life. As Scott Winslow talked about at CFC last Sunday, I definitely thirst for Jesus, to know him more, but I am so easily distracted with things of this world. It is my current hope, I wish I could say it is truly my desire, to "throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles."

Some other verses that are convicting me as of late:

"For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come." Hebrews 13:14

"Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world - the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does - comes not from the Father but from the world." 1 John 2:15-16

"If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." James 1:26

Eating at Burger King the other day the song, "Hit the Road Jack" played over the in-house radio. Jacob recalled our discussion at the baseball game about the song and said, "Hey! This is the song from the game!"

Emily is so sweet it hurts. She really has a soft heart and makes efforts at pleasing people.
