Elephants good; Donkeys bad.

Recommended

Just finished this unabridged audiobook that I picked up at the library... I had listened to "Fourth Dawn" several months ago, not realizing that it was part of a series.

Written by Brock and Bodie Thoene it weaves a story around historical, biblical accounts and I have to tell you that I am amazed that I've not heard more hooplah from the Christian community over these authors. Maybe I've just been under a rock or something, but I can't recommend this highly enough. Don't just discount what you are reading here. I'm telling you, GET THIS BOOK and read it, or even better in my opinion - listen to it. Sean Barrett is the narrator and I think he did a fabulous job. You will love this book. And for those of you who have had others recommend it (you know who you are!) and haven't bothered to read it or listen yet... JUST DO IT. Man, that's about all I can say.

It's $50 bones on Amazon which I think is crazy expensive. Just get it at your library - and if they don't have it, you can probably request it.

Good movie

This is a real photo of Ouimet and 10 year old caddie Eddie Lowery. Neat story and quite well done considering they were able to keep me interested in golf for two hours.

Scurvy

Just finished this audio book. Very interesting account (although the author really jumped around a lot and I would have enjoyed it more had he written a more chronological account) of scurvy, which is a physical malady caused by a deficiency of ascorbic acid (vitamin c) that plagued mariners at sea for extended periods of time. Very interesting account of the 10 year window in which the British navy had no effective "cure" or preventive for scurvy - to the point where it was practically abolished altogether - and how the lack of that cure affected the outcome of the American Revolution compared to the affect the cure/preventive had on Britain's blockade of French/Spanish ships allowing England to eventually defeat Napoleon.

Interesting accounts of voyages of James Cook on the Endeavor and later on the Resolution and Adventure.

Found this review when searching for a picture of the book.

One Night With the King - story of Esther

View the trailer - gives me goose bumps.

Official website for One Night with the King

An epic motion picture set in an imaginative world of adventure, intrigue and romance, One Night With the King follows a young girl who rises from peasant to princess by going against the culture and seeking the King's heart rather than the riches of the kingdom.

By 'chance' she is born with exceeding beauty to a people who have been carried away as slaves to the most powerful kingdom in the world. By 'chance' her parents are killed while she is young leaving her to be taken in by her uncle, a man who has found favor as a royal scribe. By 'chance' the Queen is executed by the unknowing King, spurned on by the ruthless plotting of palace princes hungry for power. By 'chance' the King is left feeling alone, pushed and prodded, desperate to live up to and avenge the battles of his father. By 'chance' Esther is carted off to the palace to become part of the Kingís harem at the same time a vengeful young prime minister with the Kingís ear is rising to prominence with a plan for orchestrating the genocide of her people.

So begins the story of Esther, One Night With the King, a story that reveals that all of life is under God's command. Power, position and prominence are one thing, but when Esther must choose between all she's ever dreamed of and the fate of her people, will she be able to find the courage to step forward and embrace her destiny?undefined

Bucks and Spurs

Jenny and I went here two years ago for our 10th anniversary. It was great. Neat because we remember Sunny and Cecil very well, ate all of our meals with them and the rest of the guests during our stay.
