Elephants good; Donkeys bad.

John 14:24

I'm expecting that this verse will be much more profound after the visual depiction of what Jesus went through for ME, as portrayed in the "Passion."

John 14:24
He who does not love me will not obey my teaching.

How can we not love Him if we truly understand what he went through, and why.

November

Surely I am not the only one anxious about the election in November? The prospect of a John Kerry presidency is a wee bit frightening. I would like to challenge everyone to encourage three conservative friends to register to vote! Among the myriad of other reasons, I definitely don't want our commander-in-chief beholden to the European bed-wetters of the U.N. Do people expect a true leader to take a back-seat to the will of the incredibly liberal United Nations? I just don't see it.

Good for me to remember

Colossians 3:23

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men,

Whenever I lose sight of this great verse, it's easy to get frustrated and stressed. If I'm shooting for the praise or accolades of men, then I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Great strategery in my opinion

Article about President Bush stopping by local businesses across the country - typically in states where Democratic candidates have just finished blasting him:

It's a given, in my opinion, that Bush is a much better leader than any of the Democratic fodder - but it's also exciting to know that he has more charisma than the entire field of candidates combined.

Chinese restaurant

New Chinese restaurant in Newburgh in the old K-Mart complex. Largest selection I've ever seen. Sushi and old-fashioned dip-it-yourself icecream included in the buffet. I didn't realize you could prepare shrimp that many different ways and I'm skeptical whether cold oysters on the half-shell from a Chinese restaurant are safe for human consumption.

Don't try to refill your own drink: "Employees using only"

"Friday nite, 100 pound lobster, Don't be missing it"

They also had fresh Kiwi and dragon eyes on the fruit bar. Jenny and Beth bravely tried one of the dragon eyes. Although we couldn't understand our waitress's explanation very well, we did gather that it was not a "wechtable" and that it grew on some kind of tree.

Kids 4 and under are free. Kids up to, I think 12, are $2.95. Adults on Sunday night: $10.95.

Some thoughts for today...

My alarm clock didn't go off this morning. The guys from my Wild at Heart study were meeting at Bob Evans at 6:30 and I had set the alarm for 5:45. I think the sound to the radio - I can't stand the *beep* beep* beep* - had been turned all the way down. Jacob, Emily, Isaac and Hannah Newcomb had laid in our bed Saturday night listening to a book on tape while calming down for bed. Big Game and I played, let's just leave it at several, games of NFL 2K3. Big Game was a little rusty, having played so much of the new Madden and all. Anyways, I missed out on meeting with the guys which is unfortunate. One of the guys from the group, Allen Beliles, called me and we had lunch. It was a nice time of fellowship. See the links to other blogs for opinions, thoughts on the whole SuperBowl halftime fiasco.

I really like the new color scheme that Jason hooked me up with. It goes extremely well with my favorite picture of the Lincoln Memorial.

Robyn and Paul were both talking to me about the Survivor All-Star show. After the season with the naked girls, I had made a decision to refrain from watching Survivor, since there really is nothing good, holy, pure righteous to view or think on regarding that show. But man, my flesh sure craves seeing the competition and the drama and the old characters I feel like I know so well. I'm having a tough time ignoring it and focusing on better things - especially since my man Lex and Colby are on the SAME tribe! I'd also like to see both Rob's interact with folks again as well. I'd appreciate prayer to make the right decision to refrain from watching Survivor and using that time for something positive instead. This is not what I want, but I think it's probably the best thing for me personally.
