Met at the Deaconess Women's Hospital right off the Lloyd Expressway and I164 at around 7:35am on Friday, July 11th. After talking with Big Game James (who had met us to loan us his portable VHS player) for a bit and transferring our luggage and other goods to Shawn and Angela's Camry, we rolled out just before 8:00am.
We took I164 to I64 East heading towards Louisville with Angela at the wheel. (I was leery about going along with this set-up due to my tendency towards car-sickness.) We listened to some praise music and talked about road-trips. We rolled through Louisville and onto I71 to Cincinnati without incident. Surprisingly, my bladder was behaving itself.
After Cincinnati we headed towards Dayton where we took the I675 bypass onto Hwy 4 which seemed the straightest shot to Sandusky. Angela had to pay close attention through a few cities to remain on Hwy 4, and we got behind some slow-moving vehicles in some difficult-to-pass areas. At only one point during the trip did we stop for a bathroom break. We pulled the sandwiches out of the cooler in the trunk and ate them in the car so we could get back on the road.
With one stop and the much-more-irritating-to-me-than-anyone-else-in-the-vehicle-slower-than-a-three-toed-sloth-drivers we encountered, it took Angela 7-1/2 hours to get us near the entrance to Cedar Point. This was exciting since I thought it could potentially take up to 9 hours. I was pumped and ready to head straight to the park and tackle any one of the 16 rollercoasters waiting for us. Not everyone in the car had the same plans as I. It was decided, after being put up to a vote, that we would drive out of our way (smell that irritation?) to our hotel to drop off our stuff and ensure we would be able to find our way after closing down the park.
After driving to the hotel and then to Dollar General store for sweatshirts for the girls (it was quite windy and chilly) and then back to the park, the total drive time from Evansville to the entrance to Cedar Point DID end up being close to 9 hours.
